Soft goods are used to enhance a space.

Shown; a monochromatic bedroom. Blue. The dominant color found in paint, bedding, table coverings, and drapery.

Seen; an accent color. Red. The carpet. A red plaid woven. Art and decorative pillows.

Blue and Red. Cold and Hot. Water and Fire. Calm and Aggressive.

Careful. This color combination can quickly turn Americana-kitschy; definitely not the intended direction for this private space.

Monochromatic design with a pop of color to create. Contrast. Energy. Drama. Just enough to move your eyes around the room.

It works.

Some may wonder why I add dummy panel style drapery (they don’t open) to shuttered windows.

I like to “dress” a wall. In this case, the drapery adds additional shades of blue, introduces a new pattern in both genre and size, and brings texture with the pleated waves of fabric. The drapes add dimension to a flat wall. Finally, lined fabric aids in absorbing sound, thus creating a more peaceful sleeping environment.

All in all, more warmth, more dimension, more color, more pattern, and more texture.

In my opinion, an extra expense well worth its price.
