She’s beautiful!
Memorial Day 2025 I posted a blog about decorating Americana and how it can look kitschy. The words focused on red, white, and blue and the stars and stripes and how to incorporate a patriot feeling into your personal space without feeling overtly thematic. I repeatedly stated, America is Beautiful.
A keyboard warrior, not to be mistaken with a true hero, sent me a message telling me I was wrong. She turned a post about decorating into a political jab.
Yesterday, July 4th, was a Friday and I usually post my blog on Friday. I got lazy. Complacent.
I didn’t want another “Karen” telling me America was ugly.
We spent the day on the water. We toured the lake. Boats followed the leader in the parade, all decked out with streamers, flags, bunting. Music blared with songs celebrating our country. We saw, again and again, people proudly sporting the red, white, and blue.
And, then we passed her. She’s beautiful.
She’s has pattern. She has color. She has texture.
She waves proudly. She was put on display by people who are proud to be in America and to be Americans. Patriot.
Maybe this was a political statement. Or, maybe, just maybe, despite who occupies the White House, the people who live in this house, in this amazing country, love our Star Spangled Banner.
